Rose Theatre Reconstruction for Shakespeare & Company

Shakespeare & Company is a theatre group based in the Berkshires, Massachusetts. In 2001, as part of ambitious plans for a newly acquired 64 acre site, a reconstruction of the of the Rose Theatre was commissioned.

Greenfield, then with his own practice Parameta Architects, carried out the primary research based on archaeological evidence gathered by the Museum of London and English Heritage from their excavations in the late 1980s. Very careful analysis of site features and the geometrical footprint of the playhouse’s polygon form gave very accurate results for the principal building dimensions.

Sufficient funds were not raised to complete the project.
